Job Seeker - Training & Education - Steps To Apprenticeship
Steps To Apprenticeship
To become
an apprentice it's a good idea if you complete your high school
diploma and make sure that you don't drop Math, English or Science.
Employers like to know that their apprentices have taken these
subjects and have a good grasp of these concepts.
Focus on
what trade you want to enter into, whether it's the construction,
service, industrial or motive power trade.
You must
find an employer who wants to hire you as an apprentice. Then
you or the employer must contact the Ministry of Education and
Training Apprenticeship office, so that it can be determined if
a high standard of training can be established by the employer.
A contract must then be signed by the employer and the apprentice
for registration purposes, then the training can begin.
As an apprentice
you must complete 80% of training on the job and 20% of training
in school, and you must prove that you are competent in the skills
described in the standards set by the trade you are in. Once on
the job and classroom training have been completed all apprentices
must write an exam for certification and obtain a minimum score
of 60%.
*BONUS*
While you are an apprentice you will receive a wage (minimum in
some cases) for the work you have done. Your pay will increase when
you receive certification.
