1. What made you go into business for yourself?

At first I thought I could never go into business for myself. I thought you needed a lot of money and a business degree. I soon realized that it wasn't that difficult as long as you were responsible and committed to your business. Running a business gave me a sense of freedom to choose exactly what I wanted to accomplish. Each decision was mine and success was the result of my effort and commitment.

2. What was hard about it?

Some of the most difficult things was starting a business at a young age and finding the financial support from lending institutions. I ended up using all my savings and getting a loan with my Mother. I also worked part-time. Long dedicated hours of work was difficult, because while my friends were able to go out on weekends and plan trips, I had to stay focused and committed to my work.

3. What was something surprising about it?

Everything is surprising about running a business. Surprises can be good or bad. But each surprise keeps you strong and prepared. Surprises can be anything from a good lead to a slow month when you least expect it. It's important to accept and plan things to prepare for all surprises.

4. What do you really love about having your own business?

I love the customer service. The people you meet everyday are the ones supporting your business. You really meet some really nice people. I also love working for myself, it doesn't feel like work because I enjoy it. Also being able to pay yourself is a reward I'm always grateful for, rather than getting a paycheck.

5. What advice/comments would you offer upcoming entrepreneurs?

Advice I give is to keep focused and not be discouraged if times seem difficult. Running a business is not easy and requires dedication. Never take things for granted and work hard everyday, keep positive and keep aware of changes that occur to keep yourself updated. Also take advantage of Government programs and subsidies, they are there for us to use.
