Personal Profiles - 1

AIRLINE CUSTOMER
SALES AND SERVICE AGENT
INTRODUCTION |
I went
to York University and completed a degree in french and
sociology. My goal was to apply to the Faculty of Education
and become a teacher. Unfortunately things didn't quite
work out as I planned and I found myself taking a detour
from my initial career goal. |
THE
DETOUR |
"USE
WHAT YOU'VE GOT"
Throughout high school and university I was lucky enough
to find work in areas that I enjoyed. I knew that I was
"good with people" and I also wanted to make use of the
two languages that I speak fluently- French and Italian.
It seemed only natural that I looked for work that would
compliment my talents. |
THE
DETOUR CONTINUED |
I applied
for a position with an airline that was looking for people
who were bilingual and had customer service experience-
I seemed to fit the profile. |
THE
PROCESS |
The
interview process was broken down into three stages:
- The
first interview comprised of answering questions related
to my resume and my knowledge about the airline.
- The
second interview was more in-depth concentrating on my
personality, characteristics and past work experiences.
- The
last interview was in front of a panel and part of it
was conducted in French.
|
BE
PREPARED |
You
can never be too prepared for an interview, so take the
time to go through your resume and formulate some answers
to questions that the interviewer might ask. |
MAKE
A GOOD IMPRESSION |
Be well
groomed- being clean, neat and tidy is a must in this industry
especially if you will be working directly with the customers.
|
BONUS |
Working
for an airline gives you an opportunity to travel anywhere
in the world at a reduced rate. You can even pass on these
savings to close friends and family. |
THE
STRESSORS |
Because
airlines offer 24 hour service you will be expected to work
shifts and sometimes long hours. You have to be able to
deal with the constant high pressure atmosphere and still
give people excellent customer service. |
FINAL
WORDS |
I
was accepted into Teachers College for the fall semester.
I never forgot my initial goal of becoming a teacher. My work
experience with the airline has been positive and because
of the flexibility in hours I will continue to work on a part-time
basis until I graduate. |
