People seem to be more willing to talk to you when you’re not asking them for a job. Usually, they are ready and willing to offer you their time when you’re asking for their advice and expertise.

Informational interviews are a lot like networking so remember to use your networking skills. Here are some other guidelines to keep in mind for informational interviews:

  • Set up an interview with as many of these people as possible
  • Make sure to prepare a few questions to ask them
  • Avoid taking up too much of their time
  • If they cannot meet with you personally, they may be willing to answer your questions over the phone.
