Employment Programs
Did
you know that are programs out there designed specifically
for youth who are in or out of school to help them gain experience
or find a job?
The Federal and Provincial government have created and sponsored
many youth employment programs and initiatives to get youth
connected to employment and training. By participating in
these types of programs, you may have the opportunity to explore
different working environments, gain valuable work experience
or even obtain a placement into a job.
Below are links to information on some of the many programs
available:
Federal
Government:
- Youth Employment Strategy
Y.E.S.
offers a broad range of initiatives for youth ages 15 to 30
under three programs:
- Skills Link
Assists young people who face more barriers to employment
than others. They could be high school dropouts, single
parents, Aboriginal youth, young persons with disabilities,
youth in rural areas or recent immigrants.
- Summer Work Experience
Assists secondary and post-secondary students find summer
jobs.
- Career Focus
Assists post-secondary graduates develop advanced skills and
find careers in their fields.
Provincial
Government:
- Youth Opportunities Ontario
Get
connected to information about the various programs
available through the Ontario government
- Job Connect
Job Connect is
designed for individuals who need help in finding and
keeping jobs. Services are available to youth across the
province.
- Apprenticeship
Ministry of
Training, Colleges and Universities. General information about employment and training
programs including information on Apprenticeship.
Having a hard time choosing which program is right for
you? Many of
the programs listed above can be accessed through a local
Community Agency. Many of these agencies also offer specialized
