There are laws
that protect individuals from discrimination at a job interview.
Know your rights and be informed about what type of questions
can be ‘Unlawful Questions” at an interview.
EXAMPLES
OF UNLAWFUL QUESTIONS:
- What
is your maiden name?
- How
many children do you have?
- Do
you attend church regularly?
- What
does your spouse do for a living?
- What
is your native language?
- What
is your social insurance number?
- Are
you married, divorced, separated or single?
- Do
you own or rent a car?
- What
social or political organizations do you belong to?
- What
is your sexual orientation?
- Were
you ever arrested?

The Ontario
Human Rights Commission (OHRC), outlines the following
categories that have restrictions on what can be legally asked:
- Birthplace,
ancestry, ethnic origin, place of origin
- Sex,
sexual orientation,
- Marital
status, family status
- Age
- Race,
colour
- Religion,
creed
- Citizenship
- Education
- Record
of offences
- Disabilities
- References
and membership in organizations
